BOARDWORKS 10'3" Kraken Stand-Up Paddleboard
By all means, if you have the space and cost isn't an issue, buy an SUP for cruising, another one for yoga and another one for surfing. If that isn't an option, consider getting the Boardworks Kraken SUP instead. Wide and stable, the Kraken is an all-around board that performs well while gliding over glassy water, relaxed exercising in a protected cove, aggressive cutting through wind chop or sliding down the face of a mellow wave—all with ease. A great choice if you see yourself tackling a wide variety of water conditions. The Kraken is so versatile, paddlers of all sizes and abilities will quickly flatten the learning curve and have the confidence to push the limits on new adventures.
EPX-V Construction
Similar to Boardworks' standard EPX construction, the Kraken features the addition of a high-density, kiln-dried bamboo veneer sheet for beauty and strength. Starting with a low-density, CAD-designed, stringer-less EPS core that's machine cut and hand shaped, this board is then hand laminated with layers of fine epoxy resins, fiberglass cloth and a high-end kiln-dried bamboo veneer sandwich layer. All components, fin boxes, finger-wells, leash and deck plugs are set in high-density foam blocks. It's then finished off with stunning nautical graphics and automotive grade paint and polish.
Deck
The generously wide deck provides stability, while the soft, diamond groove deck pad offers a comfortable nonslip surface for maximum grip and control with plenty of space to change positions based on paddling style and conditions. There's a built-in tail kick and arch bar in the tail pad for surf performance and tail turns. The LiftSUP™ handle allows for easy portage down to the water and provides a locking point so you can secure your board when you aren't actually on it (which hopefully is most of the time). A self-regulating vent plug relieves internal pressure in heat or high altitude. You'll also find forward deck plugs for attaching gear and a plug at the tail for attaching a leash (sold separately) so you and your board will stay connected.
Volume
When deciding on an SUP, you'll want to choose a board with adequate volume. This can be the difference between gliding smoothly across the surface or spending your time fighting that very real sinking feeling! Proper volume is influenced by two key variables: rider weight and skill level. The sleek hull on the Kraken is designed for fast, smooth and stable recreational cruising. With a volume of 200 liters, the recommended rider weight limit is 210 pounds for beginners or novices. Experienced paddlers may find they can even exceed this recommended weight limit with a capacity up to 260 pounds!
Shape
The thinned out, tuned rails and pulled in nose and tail on the Kraken means you'll be set up for nimble turns and great surf performance.
Fins
You'll discover the included center stabilizer fin and four FCS side fins provide multiple fin configuration options for versatile surf performance and flatwater tracking.
If you don't already own them, remember to order an SUP paddle and a life jacket (both sold separately) so you'll be out on the water quickly!
